The book of Romans was written to a mixture of Jewish and Gentile christians struggling to survive under the direct rule of the Roman empire
Paul firstly demonstrated that ALL had sinned - there was none righteous. Not only that but they had no excuse and were heading for Judgement.
But now, people could be made righteous through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. (Romans 3:22)
And there was no distinction – both Jews and Gentiles could be saved and be adopted into God's family.
This is a map of Paul's eventual journey to Rome
The church in Rome.
The Gospel – the 'good news'.
The wrath of God towards sin.
Evidence of God in creation, so people are without excuse.
The wrath of God.
Man is inherantly evil.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Sin=> wages=> death,
But now –
righteousness from God => gift
life for all who believe.
Justified by faith.
Eternal peace – temporal trials.
Rejoice in suffering.
Sin reigns in death
God's grace reigns through
righteousness – eternal life.
Shall we go on sinning so grace increases?
No longer slaves to sin. But
what I want to do I do not do
– what I hate I do.
There is now no condemnation
Righteousness from God, not
by law – through faith in Jesus.
Justification – Sanctification
Nothing can separate us.
Not all Israel are true Israel.
Predestination.
But everyone who calls on the
name of the Lord will be saved.
Go.....and preach the gospel.
Did God reject his people?
...a remnant chosen by grace.
Branches broken off – Gentiles
grafted in. Our gifts from God.
Love must be sincere.
Obey the authorities. Give to
Caesar...give to God.
Put on the armour of light.
Don't cause someone to fall.
Accept one another in Christ.
